What Is The Apparent Density Instrument?

Product Overview
The KR-730 series apparent bulk density measuring apparatus is a dedicated laboratory fixture built strictly in accordance with ASTM D1895 international standard, covering three mainstream test schemes (Method A / Method B / optional Method C). It quantifies natural stacking density, bulk compression factor and free-flow performance of granular, powdery plastic raw materials by gravity free-fall filling method, providing reliable physical basis for extrusion feeding design, packaging capacity calculation and formula performance evaluation.
The whole set adopts integrated 304 stainless steel forming structure, all funnel caliber, cup volume and vertical drop distance fully match standard dimensional tolerances, ensuring excellent data repeatability in batch testing. Two standard configurations KR-730A (fine powder type) and KR-730B (coarse particle type) are available, widely adopted by plastic compound factories, powder coating manufacturers, new material R&D labs and third-party polymer inspection institutions.

Core Product Strengths
- One-Piece Stainless Steel Forming, Zero Dimensional Deviation
Funnel body is integrally machined from solid stainless steel block without welding seams, the inner conical surface is polished smoothly to avoid powder adhesion and bridging during blanking. Measuring cups, support frames and leveling bases all use corrosion-resistant 304 stainless steel, long-term contact with pigments, fillers and moisture-containing powder will not rust or deform, maintaining standard size for years of continuous use.
2.Dual Standard Matching For Different Particle Sizes
KR-730A small funnel specification fits fine molding powder, carbon black powder and micro masterbatch; KR-730B large-diameter funnel is designed for plastic pellets, coarse resin particles and granular additives. The vertical gap between funnel outlet and cup mouth is fixed at the standard 38mm height, eliminating manual adjustment errors during daily testing.
3.Stable Horizontal Calibration Base
Four adjustable leveling foot pads plus built-in horizontal bubble gauge allow operators to quickly calibrate the whole frame to absolute horizontal state before each test, preventing uneven powder accumulation caused by tilted equipment and improving test result consistency between parallel samples.
4.Complete Supporting Consumables & Tools
Each complete set is equipped with standard test accessories including precision steel scraper, cleaning brush and stopwatch, no extra auxiliary tools need to be purchased separately. The scraper edge is processed flat to quickly scrape excess powder above the cup mouth for accurate volume weighing.
5.Simple Operation, Low Technical Threshold
The gravity blanking principle requires no power supply or complex electronic control modules. New operators can master the complete test flow within 5 minutes, suitable for high-frequency daily incoming QC inspection and mass formula screening work.
6.Expandable Method C Test Kit
Optional Method C auxiliary assembly including 1000ml measuring cylinder, compression weight and lead shot, specially for fluffy flakes, chopped fiber and large-size plastic fragments that cannot pass through A/B funnel apertures, realizing full ASTM D1895 standard coverage on one set of equipment.

What Equipment Is Used To Measure Bulk Density?
RT-730A Apparent Density Tester -ASTM D1895 Method A

RT-730B Apparent Density Tester -ASTM D1895 Method B
ASTM D1895 Method C
Test Method C (see FIG. 3) covers the measurement of the apparent density of materials supplied in the form of coarse flakes, chips, cut fibers, or strands. Such materials cannot be poured through the funnels described in Test Methods A and B. Also, since they ordinarily are very bulky when loosely poured and are usually compressible to a lesser bulk, even by hand, a measure of their density under a small load is appropriate and useful.

Standard Complete Test Operating Process
- Horizontal Calibration
Adjust four base foot pads and observe the horizontal bubble until centered, fix the measuring cup at the central position directly below the funnel outlet.
- Sample Filling Preparation
Block the funnel discharge hole temporarily, pour fully dried plastic powder/granules into the upper funnel cavity to avoid material agglomeration caused by moisture.
- Gravity Free-Fall Filling
Quickly release the blanking baffle, let the sample naturally fall and fill the measuring cup completely without artificial vibration or compaction.
- Volume Trimming
Use the matched steel scraper to flatly scrape off the excess material piled above the cup mouth, keep the powder surface flush with the cup edge.
- Weighing & Index Calculation
Transfer the full measuring cup to high-precision analytical balance to record total mass, subtract empty cup weight to get net sample mass, then calculate apparent bulk density (mass/standard volume) and bulk factor value.
- Equipment Cleaning
Brush residual powder off funnel inner wall and measuring cup surface with the special cleaning brush, store the fixture in a dry dust-proof environment after testing.
