rubber low temperature brittleness tester

Product Introduction

The KR-103 low-temperature brittleness tester is precision cryogenic testing equipment engineered to quantify the critical brittle point of vulcanized elastomers, flexible plastics, TPE, coated fabrics and composite polymers. It strictly complies with global test standards including ISO 812, ISO 974, ASTM D746 and multiple national GB specifications.
The testing workflow immerses standardized specimens inside a temperature-controlled glycol bath at designated sub-zero temperatures for fixed holding time, then delivers standardized high-speed impact force. Operators record the critical temperature where 50% of samples crack or fracture under impact load. This key brittleness temperature index evaluates cold resistance performance, serving as core data for new material formulation screening, raw material incoming inspection and finished product low-temperature durability certification. It is widely deployed in auto component factories, outdoor goods manufacturers, cable material plants and accredited third-party testing laboratories.

Core Competitive Advantages

  1. Wide & Ultra-Stable Refrigeration Range
Integrated compressor refrigeration system delivers adjustable temperature from 0℃ down to -70℃. High-efficiency copper heat exchange coils enable uniform cooling inside the bath; temperature fluctuation is controlled within ±0.5℃ during the 3-minute constant-temperature holding phase, eliminating uneven cold distribution that distorts test results.

    2.Standardized High-Speed Impact Mechanism

Pneumatic-driven impact hammer hits specimens at a fixed linear velocity of 2m/s ±0.2m/s. Two interchange striking heads are supplied: R1.5mm single-sample punch and R1.6mm multi-specimen punch, fully matching dimension requirements of international brittleness test norms to guarantee consistent impact energy on every test strip.

    3.Multi-Station Combined Specimen Fixture

Dual-purpose clamping assembly supports single-sample and five-parallel multi-sample testing modes simultaneously. Precise positioning lock fixes specimens vertically without bending or slippage during long cold soaking, greatly boosting batch testing efficiency for laboratory daily QC work.

4..Dual Digital PID Intelligent Control Panel

Separate high-precision digital displays independently monitor bath temperature and cold soaking countdown timer. Operators freely set target cooling temperature and holding duration via simple button operations; the system maintains constant temperature automatically without frequent manual adjustment.

    5.Compact Mobile Integrated Frame

All-in-one split structure combining refrigeration unit and test bath, equipped with universal silent casters for easy movement between workstations. Fully enclosed cooling bath prevents cold medium volatilization; all metal contact parts adopt anti-corrosion treatment for long-term stable use with industrial ethanol coolant.

    6.Complete Safety Protection Layout

Top red emergency stop button instantly cuts impact action in abnormal conditions; sealed bath cover avoids direct contact with ultra-low temperature liquid to prevent frostbite hazards. Ventilated heat dissipation cabinet protects compressor from overheating during continuous all-day testing.

Technical Parameters

2m/s±0.2m/s
Impact head radius:

single sample method: R1.5 ± 0.1mm

multi-sample method: R1.6 ± 0.1mm
After the constant temperature, the temperature fluctuation during the test was within 3 minutes:
<±0.5°C fluctuation is slight, and the temperature control is more accurate
Distance from the center of the impactor to the lower end of the holder:

11 ± 0.5mm (single sample method),

8 ± 0.3mm (multi-sample method)
Sample size: length:
25.0 ± 0.5mm, width: 6.0 ± 0.5mm, thickness: 2.0 ± 0.3mm
Machine size:
910×510×860mm
Studio size:
240×170×150mm (length × width × height)

Standard Full Test Operating Steps

  1. Pre-Equipment Preparation
Fill the cooling bath with industrial ethanol coolant to the specified liquid level; power on the machine and set target test temperature on the dual PID control panel, wait until the bath reaches stable set value.
  2. Specimen Clamping
Cut raw materials into standard rectangular test strips, mount samples vertically onto the multi-station fixture, tighten positioning bolts to avoid deformation or falling off during cold soaking.
  3. Constant Temperature Soaking
Close the bath insulation cover, activate the countdown timer to hold specimens for 3.0±0.5 minutes under fixed ultra-low temperature, ensuring uniform internal cooling of each test piece.
  4. Standard Impact Test
After soaking finishes, trigger the pneumatic impact hammer to strike each specimen once only. Take out samples and inspect surface cracks, fractures or complete breakage after 180° bending observation.
  5. Brittle Point Calibration
Adjust bath temperature up/down in 1℃ increments for repeated batch testing, record the threshold temperature where at least half of test specimens generate visible impact cracks as the material’s brittleness temperature.
  6. Post-Test Maintenance
Power off the refrigeration system after testing, wipe residual coolant from fixtures and bath inner wall, cover the equipment to avoid dust accumulation for long service life.
