KR-710B Automated Glow Wire Flammability Testing Chamber

Additional information

RT-710B Glowing Filament Flammability Tester

Glow wire testing is an electrical safety test designed to evaluate the flame resistant properties of plastic materials used in electrical devices. Its purpose is to protect against the risk of fire from overheated or electrically energised parts which may cause the plastic material to ignite.

Product Details:

Product Overview

The KR-710B glow wire test chamber is a standardized fire hazard evaluation device engineered to replicate overheating risks inside electrical appliances. It adopts a flameless high-temperature nickel-chromium heating loop to simulate overloaded resistors, hot circuit boards and other heat-generating electronic components, evaluating the ignition risk of surrounding plastic insulation materials under real operating thermal stress.
This machine executes three core flame retardant assessments: GWFI glow wire flammability index, GWIT glow wire ignition temperature and finished product glow wire combustion test. All test conditions fully align with IEC 60695 series international standards and UL 746A specifications, delivering authoritative fire safety data for household appliances, lighting fixtures, low-voltage electrical components and insulating polymer raw materials.

Core Product Advantages

  1. Standardized Nickel-Chromium Glow Wire Heating Assembly
Equipped 4mm diameter Ni80/Cr20 U-shaped alloy glow wire loop, adjustable heating range 500~1000℃ with temperature control accuracy ±2℃. Built-in 0.5mm K-type armored thermocouple monitors wire surface temperature in real time, stabilizing target temperature for 60 seconds before specimen contact to fully match standard preheating requirements, eliminating temperature fluctuation interference during testing.
  2. Constant Pressure Automatic Sample Feeding System
Stepper motor-driven sample carriage maintains fixed 14mm/s advancing speed, delivering stable 1N contact force with tolerance ±0.2N and consistent 7mm penetration depth into specimen surface. The automated travel structure avoids uneven manual pressure that distorts combustion test results, significantly boosting parallel data repeatability between batches.
  3. Triple Independent High-Precision Timing Module
Three separate digital timing channels with 0.1s minimum resolution cover heating hold duration, ignition delay recording and flame persistence tracking. Timers support manual pause and automatic data lock once combustion ceases, accurately capturing critical time nodes for calculating GWFI and GWIT flame retardant grades without manual stopwatch recording errors.
  4. Closed Observation Chamber With Independent Ventilation
0.5 cubic meter fully enclosed test cabinet with black matte background for clear flame observation; dedicated exhaust fan quickly discharges toxic pyrolysis fumes generated during material combustion, protecting lab operators. The sealed structure prevents external airflow from disturbing flame spread and burning duration measurement.
  5. Full Set Circuit Safety Protection Mechanism
The control system integrates overload, short-circuit and overcurrent dual protection circuits. Once abnormal current occurs during glow wire heating, power supply cuts off instantly to prevent equipment burnout. All core electrical components adopt industry-standard brands for long-term stable continuous testing.
  6. Compact Integrated Cabinet Layout
All-in-one vertical cabinet structure combines test chamber, control panel and ventilation unit, external dimension 1000(W)×650(D)×1300(H). Single-phase 220V power input with total power consumption only 0.6KVA, no special industrial power transformation required for factory QC rooms and material research labs.

Standard Complete Test Operating Workflow

  1. Equipment Preheating & Parameter Setup
Power on the control cabinet, set target glow wire temperature (commonly 550~960℃ per product standard), start heating and wait 60 seconds for temperature stabilization detected by thermocouple.
  2. Specimen Clamping & Ignition Paper Placement
Mount standard plastic test strip on the fixed sample holder; place absorbent cotton ignition paper at the designated position 200mm vertically below the specimen to record dripping combustion risk.
  3. Automatic Contact Test Cycle
Start the test program; the carriage automatically advances to press the glow wire against the sample surface and maintains 30s constant contact. The three timing channels synchronously record ignition delay and flame burning duration.
  4. Flame & Drip Condition Judgment
After 30s contact, the carriage retracts automatically. Operators observe sustained combustion time and check whether molten drips ignite the cotton paper, recording all key data for grade calculation.
  5. GWFI/GWIT Index Calculation
Adjust test temperature gradient following standard staircase method to acquire critical temperature values for material flammability index and ignition temperature classification.
  6. Cabinet Ventilation & Post-Test Cleaning
Activate exhaust fan to clear residual combustion smoke, cool the glow wire to room temperature, wipe soot residues inside the cabinet and clean the sample fixture for next batch testing.
